His final shift should have been a day that marked new beginnings for the graduate, not the ending of his life.
He was off to start a new job in I.T, an area he was so eager to move into. South Yorkshire police say a 17-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening to be questioned in connection with this case.
A 25-year-old has also been detained in connection.
His colleagues said that Mr Peiris felt unwell during his shift but had agreed to work through this final order. He had come to the UK from Sri Lanka to complete his I. T. degree, graduating at Sheffield Hallam University in 2011.
His family is terribly upset with this awful occurrence.
“We sent our son to the UK to study so he can have a better life.
“Now we are left with only a broken heart.
“We were devastated and shocked to hear of our son’s tragic end and we are still unable to comprehend that he is actually gone.
“Thavisha was one of the most caring and loving sons a parent could have.
“He was full of life and always had a smile on his face. Anyone who met him immediately liked him.
“He was a deeply religious boy who would not even harm an ant.”
His family will be flown to the UK with Dominoes Pizza covering the costs of the flights.
A strong police team is working on the murder inquiry, with officers carrying out extensive inquiries and examining CCTV footage throughout the surrounding areas. We hope that the police can provide the family with both the answers and closure that they need.
