Old rivals Ken Livingstone and current London mayor, Boris Johnson, will go head to head in 2012 as they battle it out to win the May election and the next term in office as the city’s mayor for the following 4 years.

Pizza Express are carrying out an unscientific experiment to try and gauge the mood of voters by introducing two special edition pizzas, one for each candidate, and will keep a tally of how many Boris pizzas and how many Ken pizzas are sold until the end of the month to see which is more popular with the diners.

The Boris Johnson pizza is a twist on the popular Sloppy Giuseppe pizza and features toppings of spicy beef, onions, peppers and also extra cheese in a nod to the Conservative supporter’s mane of unruly blonde hair.

The Ken Livingstone pizza has a strong tomato base, referring to the Labour man’s Red Ken persona, with other toppings including pesto, basil, avocado and rocket. A food artist also created a face in the likeness of both Ken and Boris on each of the pizzas so that there’s no confusion over which pizzas belongs to which mayoral candidate.

Both political pizzas are priced at £10 each to ensure a fair contest, with the special edition pizzas being available during the London Restaurant Festival, the winner will be announced when the festival concludes at the end of October.

Pizza Hut will challenge America to “Share a Slice of Hope” during the four week programme to raise funds for the special cause.

It’s estimated all 7,200 Pizza Hut outlets throughout the US will take part in the charity campaign which the pizza giant hopes will help highlight the issues of global hunger and raise funds to help tackle the issue.

According to recent statistics, there are 1 billion people in the world today going days or even weeks without a substantial meal, which Pizza Hut believes is totally unacceptable and is working with the charity to help bring an end to world hunger.

Pizza Hut say that every $1 dollar donated through their month long campaign will feed four children so a little donation really does go a long way.

Customers can donate online at PizzaHut.com and share their donation on social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter to encourage their friends to follow suit and donate to the World Hunger Relief charity.

If customers in the States would rather donate while visiting their local Pizza Hut, they can choose to leave their mark by adding a personalised slice of pepperoni on the pizza shaped donation board to show that they’ve made a contribution to the cause.

Pizza Hut say that all donations made in the next four weeks will benefit the World Food Programme’s hunger relief programme, so what are you waiting for, get donating.

Domino’s Pizza has launched a brand new app for Android users. The new application is free to download from the Android Marketplace and even boasts a number of features not available on the home <a href="http://www.dominos.co.uk/ourstores/Pontyclun.aspx"title="" >pizza delivery giant’s Apple iOS application.

Pizza fans who download the app onto their Android device will be able to order pizza via the app, customise their order, track their pizza delivery and even pay for their order, all through the new Domino’s application.

The Android app pushes ahead of the existing Apple app in that the Android offers a number of extra features including a GPS tracking system which allows users to navigate to their preferred pick up point, and also a pizza tracker widget which will display live updates about the user’s order and also information on the latest special offers, which will appear on the Android status bar.

Domino’s are confident they will see the same sales success as reported following the launch of the pizza giant’s original app for Apple devices which generated $2 million orders in its first three months.

The pizza takeaway provider says they are committed to investing further in their digital platforms as their recent figures demonstrate that 40% of orders at Domino’s are now being made online. The home pizza delivery expert expects this percentage to rise to 60% over the next 2 years, and Domino’s have set themselves the target of having 25% of these online orders being made via mobile devices through their applications.

The 26-year-old man was later arrested by police on suspicion of disorderly conduct.

It later transpired that the angry outburst was caused by a mistake on the part of the customer himself. The man from Wisconsin had placed an order for a pizza online and accidentally clicked the option to collect his order from Topper pizzeria in person, although he’d intended to get a delivery.

An hour after placing the pizza order online, the young man realised his mistake, and phoned the store to ask for his pizza to be delivered. As a result of the mix up, when the pizza finally arrived at the customer’s door, it was cold.

The customer then allegedly flew into a rage, calling the pizzeria to complain about his cold order, before marching down to the pizza takeaway and proceeding to throw the offending cold pizza and breadsticks at the staff while shouting and swearing at the workers of Toppers in the town of Brookfield.

It’s been reported that the police arrived shortly after and proceeded to arrest the man on charges of disorderly conduct. The customer than admitted fault to the police saying he’d made a mistake before adding that he hadn’t intended to hurt anyone.

The under 30’s are the group most likely to be found down the pub, or sat in front of the telly on a Thursday evening tucking into a takeaway pizza according to the research from the entertainment website.

The study found that the under 30’s agree that the weekends are definitely starting earlier with 72% of those polled admitting that their weekends start on a Thursday. A further 62% also revealed that they would be more likely to go out on a Thursday night as opposed to any other week day, while 65% said they’d ditch cooking and opt for a takeaway such as a pizza, chips, Indian or Chinese on a Thursday evening.

As well as heading down the pub and calling out for takeaways, the under 30’s are also more likely to do their grocery shopping on a Thursday in order to avoid the usual rush and queues at the supermarket tills on the weekends.

Not surprisingly, Thursday is also shaping up to be an expensive day, with young adults spending up to £158 on takeaways, drinking and groceries on a Thursday.

Are you planning to order a pizza tonight? Is Thursday really the new Saturday? Let us know your thoughts.

Takeaways pizzas and other fast food outlets could be hit by a new fat tax to help beat the rising levels of obesity in the UK.

Fish and chips shops, kebab houses, pizza takeaways and even high street chains such as Domino’s Pizza, McDonalds and KFC would all be affected by the new tax if government proposals are given the green light.

The levy of £1,000 would have to be paid by every fast food outlet before they’d be allowed to operate. The money raised from the new tax on fast food outlets would be channelled into programmes to promote healthy food habits amongst youngsters.

The scheme will be trialled in Oldham as obesity levels amongst children in the town were found to be above the national average with one in every four children in Oldham classed as obese. Councils across the UK are will monitor the scheme in Oldham with a view to drawing up their own obesity fighting strategies.

However the new tax could prove disastrous for some small businesses who are already struggling to stay afloat in the difficult economic climate. But health bosses argue that the high number of takeaway outlets throughout the country could partly be to blame for the rising levels of obesity and the poor diets of Brits.

Brian Edler succeeded in making 206 cheese and tomato pizzas in just one hour to clinch the world record. The former record for the most pizzas created in 60 minutes as 168 which was set last July.

The Domino’s franchisee scheduled the world record attempt so as to coincide with Domino’s Pizza’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

A team of pizza judges were on hand to check every pizza met competition standards for size and completeness during Brian’s successful record breaking attempt.

Proceeds from the sale of the pizzas made during the world record attempt were donated to charity, plus an auction was held throughout the 60 minutes during which $33,000 was raised for good causes, with Brian’s final pizza being auctioned off for $5,000.

Domino’s franchisee Brian was in training for 3 months prior to the World Record attempt, although the Ohio store owner has form when it comes to pizza making success. Brian has competed on the national US Pizza Team at the World Pizza Championships in Italy on several occasions and has won a number of national and international accolades in speed pizza making competitions.

Earlier in 2010, we reported how another Domino’s franchisee, Bob Leikam, beat the world record for the most pizza made in 24 hours when he and his team made 6,838 pizzas in one day.

The 360 phone, which launched recently, is built by Korean electronics giant Samsung and has been seen as an attempt by Vodafone to compete with T-Mobile’s Google-designed Android phone and, of course, the huge market share of Apple’s iPhone.

The application is designed to make use of the 360′s GPS function to automatically use the phone’s location as a method to contact the relevant pizza hut store. The application then contacts the store with the users location and order. The cost of the order is then added to the user’s phone bill.

This announcement follows on from the recent success of Pizza Hut’s iPhone application which reported earned them over $1million in its first 3 months. It is likely that the application will soon be expanded to other mobile phones such as RIM’s Blackberry series of phones.
