The owner of a pizza takeaway shop in Sunderland has spoken out after false rumours circulating on social networks have started having a negative impact on his business.

Mohsen Hussein is the owner of Pizza Uno and Dixy Chicken in Sunderland and says he’s noted a 50% drop in business since vindictive rumours were started on social network websites implying that the two takeaways were to be shut down because of poor hygiene and that bodily fluids were being used in food served at the outlets.

Businessman Mr Hussein says the rumours are categorically untrue and he believes the lies were started purposely by someone attempting to sabotage his businesses. Because the stories were started online, it’s been an impossible task to find out where the rumours originated from and who was responsible for starting them.

The pizza store owner believes the stories first began after he advertised how the pizza takeaway and the Dixy Chicken store had both received a 5 star hygiene rating from Sunderland County Council following an inspection, the highest score possible to obtain.

Since the allegations started flying around online, customers have been steering clear of Pizza Uno which was known for being one of the busiest pizza stores in Sunderland. Mr Hussein wants to set the record straight on the false stories before it starts to have a lasting effect on his business. If customers continue to stay away, the 25 staff who are employed across the two takeaways could find their jobs in jeopardy.

Pizza takeaway owner Mr Hussein says he’s been deeply upset by the rumours which are completely unfounded, but is working to try to overcome the false allegations and get his business back on track.

A great grandmother from Newfoundland, Canada, celebrated her 106th birthday last week and credits her love of pizza with helping her reach her milestone age.

Margaret Ellen Moores turned 106 on November 5th and celebrated with a party surrounded by her family and friends. When asked about her tips for a long life, the centurion’s daughter, 65-year-old Marie Cheeseman, revealed that her mother has always had a sweet tooth and loves nothing better than tucking into pizza and fries.

For a woman who’s lived for 106 years, Mrs Moores is in very good health as her only ailment is arthritis for which she takes medication as and when it flares up. Aside from this and some deafness, the great grandmother is in extremely good shape and still enjoys her favourite meal of pizza and fries as often as she can.

While the young-at-heart gran enjoys her pizza, one thing she’s never taken to is water and never drinks it. Sweets and pizza are definitely up there on her favourites list, as is salt beef and salt pork which she grew up eating.

Since turning 99, Margaret and her family have celebrated each of her birthdays with a big party in her hometown of Rushoon, Newfoundland.

The store, located on Dunraven Street, will come as a welcome employment boost to the area. Domino’s Pizza is recruiting within the community for trainee managers, trainee pizza makers, customer service representatives and delivery experts.

Tej Randeva, franchisee of the new Domino’s store in Tonypandy, said: “We’re looking to employ people who live in the community that we’ll be serving. First and foremost, we’ll be looking for people who can deliver great customer service and demonstrate strong teamwork skills, as well as boundless enthusiasm. It’s also vital to be able to maintain a sense of fun while working under pressure.”

Domino’s Pizza believes in opportunities for all. The company is an Age Positive Employer Champion, which means that it has been recognised for its commitment to welcoming applicants of all ages. Domino’s will be recruiting on the basis of ability and, as many team members go on to management positions in under two years, this recruitment drive is a fantastic opportunity for jobseekers in Tonypandy.

At induction, as well as throughout their career, Domino’s offers its employees full training, ranging from dough management and food hygiene for pizza makers through to road safety for pizza delivery experts. Domino’s always recruits from the surrounding area and, with an additional focus on developing strong community links, aims to deliver more than just great tasting pizza. In particular, Domino’s supports Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) on both a national and local level. SOGB provides people with learning disabilities opportunities to take part in year-round sports training and competition.

• The new store is set to open at the end of April and is located at 86 Dunraven Street, Tonypandy CF40 1AP
• If you are interested in a position at the store, please log on to www.dominos-pontyclun.co.uk/jobs

The Transport Security Administration which is responsible for homeland security in the United States has taken to advertising job vacancies on pizza boxes in Washington DC as part of an initiative to encourage candidates from all walks of life to apply for a job with the TSA.

It’s been reported that the practice of posting job adverts on pizza boxes was first launched by the TSA last year. It’s part of an ongoing drive to encourage a wide range of applicants to come forward for vacancies on offer at the organisation.

As well as advertising on pizza boxes, the TSA has also taken to posting job ads on petrol pumps, trains and cinemas in an attempt to gain maximum exposure for their employment opportunities.

The adverts posted on the pizza boxes read: “Washington Reagan National Airport and Washington-Dulles International Airport are now hiring Transportation Security Officers. See yourself in a vital role for Homeland Security. Be part of a dynamic security team protecting airports and skies as you proudly secure your future.”

The TSA believes that widespread advertising of their job vacancies will lead to the recruitment of the very best candidates. However the TSA has yet to confirm whether the strategy has lead to an improvement in the standard of applicants apply for jobs, or whether they’ve experienced a rise in the number of applications being received.

It’s not known how much the pizza restaurants are charging to carry adverts on their takeaway pizza boxes.
