The A-1 pizza store in Rhode Island had reported several incidents in which their delivery men were being targeted and robbed in a specific area of the town. The police decided to carry out a sting operation, posing as the delivery man they next time a call came in for a takeaway pizza to be delivered in the Newport area of Rhode Island.

An unmarked police car had an A-1 pizza sign posted on its roof, and the policeman driver dressed in the pizza parlour’s uniform to make the call. Another two plain closed officers hide in the back seat of the car for back up.

Two men aged 17 years and 30-years-old were arrested when they attempted to rob the officer dressed as a pizza delivery worker. One of the robbers was reported to be carrying a BB gun in the waistband of his trousers. The duo were described as “shocked” to discover that they’d attempted to attack a police officer disguised in the pizza store uniform.

The two men were arrested on the spot and are awaiting charges.

Brian Edler succeeded in making 206 cheese and tomato pizzas in just one hour to clinch the world record. The former record for the most pizzas created in 60 minutes as 168 which was set last July.

The Domino’s franchisee scheduled the world record attempt so as to coincide with Domino’s Pizza’s 40^th anniversary celebrations.

A team of pizza judges were on hand to check every pizza met competition standards for size and completeness during Brian’s successful record breaking attempt.

Proceeds from the sale of the pizzas made during the world record attempt were donated to charity, plus an auction was held throughout the 60 minutes during which $33,000 was raised for good causes, with Brian’s final pizza being auctioned off for $5,000.

Domino’s franchisee Brian was in training for 3 months prior to the World Record attempt, although the Ohio store owner has form when it comes to pizza making success. Brian has competed on the national US Pizza Team at the World Pizza Championships in Italy on several occasions and has won a number of national and international accolades in speed pizza making competitions.

Earlier in 2010, we reported how another Domino’s franchisee, Bob Leikam, beat the world record for the most pizza made in 24 hours when he and his team made 6,838 pizzas in one day.

A Domino’s Pizza delivery driver from Detroit had a pleasant surprise when he received a tip from a happy customer.

Pizza delivery man Robert Witherhome delivered an order worth $24 dollars to a hungry customer staying at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Utica. The unnamed customer gave the driver a tip of $10 dollars the first time around.

However it seemed the customer, who is believed to be staying in the area to receive medical treatment, had a change of heart and decided the Domino’s driver deserved a more substantial tip.

Virender Singh, who runs the franchise in Detroit, said the customer called back to ask if the delivery driver could pay him another visit. This time around the customer presented the hard working delivery driver with a tip for a whopping $1,000.

Mr Singh said of the generous gesture, “we were all amazed.” Before adding that he’s been trying to promote his driver into a managerial position for some time, but he has refused as he prefers life as a driver as he gets more of a chance to chat and interact with the customers.

As yet, Robert the driver has not decided what he’ll spend his $1,000 tip on.

Police in Colorado Springs, US, are investigating claims that a pizza delivery driver was targeted by the same thief two days in a row.

The 61-year-old pizza delivery worker who is employed by Borrielleo Brothers Pizza was held at gunpoint by the attacker and ordered to handover all cash he was carrying.

The first attack took place on a Tuesday, and the next the following day a mile away from where the first hold up occurred.

The pizza worker was able to provide police with a detailed description of his attacker which enabled the authorities to arrest the suspect they believe is responsible for the robberies.

The assailant was described by the victim as a young black man aged approximately 17 years, 5foot 6 inches tall. The delivery driver said he was threatened with a silver 22 calibre Luger handgun.

A man fitting the delivery driver’s description was arrested and the same weapon was said to have been found on his person. The suspect is a minor so his name has not been released. He’s now facing charges of two counts of aggravated robbery.

The Borriello Brother Pizza delivery driver says his company has a policy in place whereby drivers are only permitted to carry small amounts of cash in case of incidents of robbery. Despite the spate of robberies, the pizza worker says he generally feels safe while making his deliveries.

Not many people would consider delivering pizza to be a particularly dangerous job. This was definately not the case for a delivery driver based in Greensboro in the heart of North Carolina, USA this week when he was shot during a robbery.

The driver had been delivering pizza to customers for Fox’s Pizza,  down Tillman Avenue in the city when he was stopped by a man stopped his motorbike and demanding the drivers’ cargo. When the driver, who has yet to be named, refused the robber shot him and stole the goods.

Local police have announced they have located a suspect in relation to the crime, but have yet to make any arrests.
