Domino’s Pizza unveils UK’s first gluten-free pizza

Domino’s Pizza has become the first pizza delivery company in the UK to create an exclusive line of pizzas suitable for coeliacs. As Domino’s Pizza prepares to launch its new gluten-free pizza on 19 November 2012, customers with coeliac disease who are gluten-intolerant have welcomed the move from the pizza delivery expert.

Domino’s Pizza’s new gluten-free pizza has been accredited by the national charity for people with coeliac disease, Coeliac UK. The new pizza, that has been creating quite a stir, will be available nationwide for collection and delivery from 19 November. Unlike other gluten-free products which often incur a premium, Domino’s gluten-free pizza will be available for the same price as other pizzas.

The new gluten-free pizza is a culmination resulting from requests from the public asking the pizza giant to create a pizza suitable for coeliacs. Over the past four years, Domino’s Pizza has been searching the UK and abroad for a suitable supplier who can provide a high quality gluten-free base. Finally, after rigorous testing Domino’s has found a gluten-free base that meets the company’s high standards for both quality and taste.

Domino’s new creation is not just a sought-after product for those who suffer from coeliacs disease but is also suitable for those who are allergic to diary or lactose intolerant. The gluten-free pizza will be made to order from scratch, just like all other Domino’s pizzas, and orders can be placed without cheese to create a dairy-free pizza.

Sales and Marketing Manager for Domino’s Pizza Simon Wallis said: “It’s been a long time coming but we can’t wait to officially launch our new gluten-free pizza. We’ve worked long and hard with Coeliac UK and our new product development team to develop a product which is not only gluten-free but really tastes great too. We hope the product will bring the enjoyment of pizza to a new set of customers who, until now, haven’t been able to tuck into a Domino’s with their friends and family.”

Coeliac UK chief executive, Sarah Sleet, said: “We know that eating out safely is a top concern for people with coeliac disease, who must follow a strict gluten-free diet for life. We are working with the catering industry to help them deliver good quality menu choices for people with coeliac disease and are delighted that Domino’s is recognising the importance of catering for this market.”

The new Domino’s gluten-free pizza will be available to order online and in-store from 19 November 2012.

  1. if this is prepared and cooked in the same kitchen as the wheat flour bases then contamination is inevitable. Dominos would be better off to prepare a few varieties offsite in clean facility so they arrive foil wrapped and go through the ovens without being opened.
