Domino’s Pizza offered a helping hand to passengers stranded at Gatwick Airport yesterday by delivering 500 slices of free pizza.
Hundreds of weary travellers were forced to sit it out in the airport after flights were grounded due to the heavy snowfall which has blanketed Britain and much of Northern Europe over the last few weeks.
As a result, many people were left stranded at the airport as they waited anxiously for flights to open again.
At this point, a local branch of Domino’s Pizza in Horley decided to step in and attempt to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to the passengers stuck at the West Sussex airport by delivering a fresh batch of piping hot pizzas.
One of the bosses at the Horley franchise said they hoped the free pizza delivery would help lift the spirits of those trapped at the airport. Although the planes were unable to take off, Domino’s steely pizza delivery drivers battled the snow to get through to the airport to deliver the much needed pizza.
500 Gatwick Airport staff worked through the night to clear the snow and flights started taking off again yesterday, however the airlines are warning of delays as they attempt to clear the backlog.
