Based on Bridge Street in Llanelli, this Domino’s Pizza store has already created quite a buzz for this unique charity partnership.

The Wales Air Ambulance is an all-Wales charity providing vital emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries. The organisation receives no national government funding and relies solely on the support of the local community. Individuals and businesses across Wales visit the many Wales Air Ambulance charity shops that sells unwanted books, furniture and bric-a-brac. Domino’s Pizza has expressed its delight in partnering with this inspirational charity and hopes that its latest campaign will help the Wales Air Ambulance gather more funds that is vital to the operation of this charity.

Fast food giant Domino’s Pizza has always been involved in its local community and encourages all its franchisees to play an active part in developing and encouraging community activities. The partnership with the Wales Air Ambulance is a simple way in which stores and local people can support a worthy cause.

Franchisee of the Domino’s store in Llanelli, Tracy Bevan, said: “Wales Air Ambulance does a fantastic job in supporting the community by coming to the aid of much needed people.  We plan to reserve a space in our store especially for our customers to be able to leave their unwanted books. We are very happy to do our bit to support them and hope that this project really takes off!”

Community Fundraiser for Wales Air Ambulance, Paul Canning, said:  “We are thrilled to have the support of Domino’s Pizza.  I look forward to seeing the results of our partnership and hope that Domino’s customers will get on board with this project.  If this partnership proves successful we may look at working with other Domino’s stores in Wales.”

The books that are donated to Domino’s Pizza Llanelli (Bridge Street) are collected by the Wales Air Ambulance on a regular basis. Remember to bring along your unwanted books the next time you’re ordering a pizza!

Pizza Hut Delivery unveils ‘Halo 4 Stuffed Crust Pizza’ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-hut-delivery-unveils-halo-4-stuffed-crust-pizza-146000/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-hut-delivery-unveils-halo-4-stuffed-crust-pizza-146000/#comments Thu, 08 Nov 2012 17:55:42 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1460 As the gaming community across the world eagerly gets their hands on the newly-released Halo 4, the pizza industry has already introduced its gourmet offering to celebrate the launch. Pizza Hut Delivery, in its second year of collaboration with Microsoft’s Xbox Halo game series, has introduced a ‘Halo 4 Stuffed Crust Pizza’ following the success of last year’s limited-edition ‘Halo Anniversary Pizza’ that proved to be a huge hit with pizza and gaming fans.

With the help of gaming blogger FlawlessClowboy, whose review of last year’s ‘Halo Anniversary Pizza’ spurred a record 30,000 YouTube views, Pizza Hut Delivery has created this year’s special and is expecting equal levels of popularity if not more for the ‘Halo 4 Stuffed Crust Pizza’. This year’s campaign is bigger and better than before and involves a bespoke microsite where pizza fans now have the chance to claim an exclusive Halo 4 Avatar and win prizes.

Customers can enjoy their limited edition ‘Halo 4 Stuffed Crust Pizza’ served in unique Halo 4 pizza boxes. But it doesn’t just end there. Pizza Hut Delivery has partnered with Microsoft to create an extensive collection of printed promotional material including voucher books, direct mail, box toppers and emails.

According to assistant brand manager at Pizza Hut Delivery, Amy Ashken, the response has been overwhelming. She said: “We have been overwhelmed with the response to our marketing partnership with Xbox and Halo 4. With so many of our customers enjoying a night in with pizza and their Xbox, this has been a perfect tie-up for Pizza Hut Delivery and we are delighted that it has generated such a positive reaction from customers.”

This year’s unique Halo tribute pizza wouldn’t have been possible without pizza fans’ input and the help of gamer and blogger FlawlessCowboy. He said: “I did a video review of last year’s pizza and, if truth be told, I thought there could have been more of a ‘Halo Experience’ for fans. This year it’s a totally different story and Pizza Hut Delivery has really gone to town!”

Pizza Hut introduce Windows Phone app for customers in Australia http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-hut-introduce-windows-phone-app-for-customers-in-australia-139300/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-hut-introduce-windows-phone-app-for-customers-in-australia-139300/#comments Tue, 29 May 2012 13:42:08 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1393 Pizza Hut has become the pizza retailer in Australia to launch a customer app for use on smartphones running Microsoft’s Windows phone operating systems. The exciting new application was developed by Altaine, while Microsoft and Nokia both supported the development.

The all new Pizza Hut customer app allows pizza fans to create a new order and customise their order quickly and simply through their mobile phone. The app also enables Pizza Hut customers to save a customised pizza selection for use on a future order making for an easier and more streamlined pizza order process.

Another innovative feature of the Pizza Hut app for Windows smartphone users in Australia is the utilisation of a live timer on the customer’s personalised home screen which shows a countdown on the progress of their order. There’s also the option to set a preferred delivery time so Pizza Hut customers in Australia can specify an arrival time while placing their order via the new app.

Pizza Hut Australia reported that 25% of all of their online orders are placed via smart phones, a practice which is likely to develop further in the future as more and more Australians acquire smart phone technology. The rise in the popularity of online orders is the main reason the brand chose to invest in their mobile ordering platforms, resulting in the new Windows Phone app recently launched by the pizza retailer.

Takeaway giant launches new bacon ice cream sundae http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/takeaway-giant-launches-new-bacon-ice-cream-sundae-136700/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/takeaway-giant-launches-new-bacon-ice-cream-sundae-136700/#comments Fri, 13 Apr 2012 14:34:33 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1367 Takeaway giant, Burger King, have unveiled a brand new desert for their menu; the bacon ice cream sundae. The new product is currently only available at Burger King outlets in Nashville Tennessee where the sweet and savoury desert is being trialled amongst its customers.

Fast food providers are pulling out all the stops to outdo one another with increasingly outlandish and wacky addition to their menus. Earlier this week we reported on how Pizza Hut has just launched the new hot dog stuffed crust pizza in the UK at an eye-watering 270 calories a slice.

Now Burger King is upping the stakes in the fast food market by introducing the bacon ice cream sundae. The desert, priced at $2.49, features vanilla ice cream intertwined with fudge sauce topped off with salty pieces of crispy cooked bacon. Burger King will gauge the response to the new savoury and sweet sundae from their trial at their stores in Nashville over the coming weeks.

Burger King, which is currently ranked as the third biggest burger chain in the world behind McDonalds and Wendy’s, revealed plans recently to introduce a number of new dishes to their menu including the bacon sundae, also strawberry and banana smoothies, Caesar salads and sweet potato fries.

While Burger King’s bacon sundae may be grabbing the headlines this week, technically they’re not the first food provider to offer bacon in a desert form. Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal famously had added a bacon and egg ice cream to his restaurant menu, while Jack in the Box have included a bacon milkshake to their menu.

Pizza Hut to introduce hot dog stuffed crust in the UK http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-hut-to-introduce-hot-dog-stuffed-crust-in-the-uk-136000/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-hut-to-introduce-hot-dog-stuffed-crust-in-the-uk-136000/#comments Tue, 10 Apr 2012 15:43:01 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1360 Never again will UK fast food fans be faced with a dilemma over whether to opt for a pizza or a hot dog takeaway thanks to a brand new invention from Pizza Hut. The leading pizza restaurant and delivery provider has launched the hot dog stuffed crust pizza in the UK offering indecisive foodies the chance to combine two favourites in one dish.

While you might assume this hotdog/pizza combination must be an American invention, you would actually be wrong; in fact the new Pizza Hut hot dog stuffed crust isn’t even available in the States yet. Surprisingly, the sausage stuffed pizza has been available in Thailand and Japan where it was first introduced on the company’s menu back in 2007.

If you’re not yet sold on the idea, Pizza Hut have made the new stuffed crust sound as appealing as possible in their menu write-up describing the new crust pizza as “succulent hot dog sausage bursting from our famous stuffed crust, with a FREE mustard drizzle.”

We’ve had the pizza crust stuffed with cheese, BBQ sauce and even the garlic bread stuffed crust, but will the new hot dog pizza crust trump them all to become the ultimate pizza combination? The new addition to the Pizza Hit menu is due to receive its debut in the UK this week so what are you waiting for? Give it a try and let us know your thoughts on the brand new stuffed crust creation.

Pizza restaurant chain reignites its plans for expansion http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-restaurant-chain-reignites-its-plans-for-expansion-135500/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/pizza-restaurant-chain-reignites-its-plans-for-expansion-135500/#comments Wed, 04 Apr 2012 14:34:36 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1355 Pizza restaurant chain, Prezzo, has unveiled its plans to reignite its plans for expansions following a rise in profits of 14% for the previous year. The popular restaurant chain, which specialises in pizza and pasta dishes, shelved their previous expansion plans in 2009 as a result of the economic downturn.

After posting an impressive 14% increase in profits, £16.4 million in underlying profits, in the last year until January 1st 2012, it’s full steam ahead with plans to develop the pizza restaurant chain further. The brand plans to open 20 new restaurants over the next year alone, creating in the region of 350 new jobs.

Last year saw Prezzo increase its menu prices slightly to redress the balance of increasing utilities and wage bills. As the company’s profits show, this rise in restaurants prices hasn’t had a negative impact on the brand.

The Prezzo restaurant chain benefitted from strong trading in the last quarter of 2011 and profits were also boosted thanks to the opening of 27 new eateries in the last 12 months. The total number of restaurants now stands at 189, with Prezzo outlining plans to open a further 20 restaurants in the coming year. Bristol, Cobham and Bath have all been earmarked as potential sites for new pizza restaurants.

In addition to the successful range of pizza and pasta restaurants, the chain is also planning to further develop its growing brand of Tex-Mex restaurants known as Chimichanga, with plans for another restaurant in this portfolio to open in 2012 bringing its total number of Chimichanga restaurants to 20.

Scotland’s largest Domino’s franchisee to open outlets in Germany http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/scotlands-largest-dominos-franchisee-to-open-outlets-in-germany-135300/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/scotlands-largest-dominos-franchisee-to-open-outlets-in-germany-135300/#comments Fri, 30 Mar 2012 14:39:32 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1353 With 11 Domino’s Pizza outlets based throughout the Lothians and Fife under his belt, including the largest Domino’s Pizza branch in Scotland, Sean Geddes, is taking his wealth of experience as successful Domino’s franchisee over to Europe where he plans to open three stores in the next year.

The Domino’s entrepreneur has been spending three to four days out of every fortnight over in Germany as he prepares for the launch of his first Domino’s in the country, due to be open for business in May.

The first outlet will be opened in Aachen which is close to the Belgium and Dutch border where Domino’s is already established as a brand. The launch of the Aagen Domino’s will mark the pizza delivery giant’s first move into Germany.

After the Aagen Domino’s is up and running, the Scottish businessman won’t be resting on his laurels, instead Mr Geddes revealed in an interview with a Scottish newspaper this week that he will open another Domino’s in Cologne in August and a third Domino’s franchise in Germany, this time in Hogmanay, by the end of the year.

Gordon Penman, who also happens to hold the title of Scotland’s Fastest Pizza Maker, will oversee the German expansion of Sean Geddes’s Domino’s stores. Penman previously managed the busiest branch of Domino’s Pizza in Edinburgh so his expertise will come in very useful with the move over to Germany.

Does looking at pizza make food taste better? http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/does-looking-at-pizza-make-food-taste-better-133900/ http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/does-looking-at-pizza-make-food-taste-better-133900/#comments Thu, 15 Mar 2012 16:34:56 +0000 http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/?p=1339 New research has suggested that food tastes better, simply as a result of the eater looking at an image of a high carbohydrate food such as pizza. Due to the strong link between vision and food perception, scientists have found that volunteers who saw an image of a pizza reported higher levels of enjoyment from food compared to when they were shown images of a low carbohydrate food such as green beans or watermelon.

14 volunteers took part in the research which was conducted by a team from Nestle Research Centre, the Daily Mail reported. The participants were shown quick flashes of images of either a high carbohydrate treat type of food, such as pizza, or images of a low carbohydrate food type such as green beans or watermelon. After being shown the pictures of the food, the volunteers underwent an electric taste test which is a pulse which stimulates the tongue but has no taste.

The volunteers were then asked to rate the taste after the electric test, asking them to base their reaction on levels of pleasantness and intensity. The scientists also took into account brain images which focused on areas related to enjoyment of food when compiling their results.

The results of the study found that those who were shown the images of pizza and high carb foods tended to report higher levels of enjoyment compared to those who were shown the images of fruit and vegetables and other low carb foods.

The results could spell good news for dieters who could use the trick of looking at a desirable food such as pizza or chips to make their healthy and low calorie meal of salad taste better, helping them to stick to their diet in the long run.
