The new Domino’s Pizza outlet in Tonypandy was officially opened today by Over the Rainbow star Sophie Evans and Wales rugby captain, Matthew Rees and Wales fullback Morgan Stoddart.

The crowds turned out in their droves to see the three celebrities officially open South Wales’ latest branch of Domino’s Pizza and to enjoy the free slices of freshly made pizza which were handed out by a red welsh dragon, a gorilla, and Danny the Domino’s mascot.

Local girl and West End star, Sophie Evans, cut the ribbon at 1:30pm just in time to announce the new Domino’s Pizza store officially open for the lunch time rush. 18-year-old Sophie admitted while tucking into a Domino’s pizza at the launch that this was her second Domino’s in two days as she’d enjoyed Domino’s Two for Tuesdays offer last night after coming off stage at the London Palladium where she is performing the role of Dorothy on Tuesday evenings in the new West End production of The Wizard of Oz.

Scarlets and Wales rugby players, Matthew Rees and Morgan Stoddart were happy to mingle with the locals who turned out to meet the rugby internationals and to be part of the new store launch. The sportsmen also posed for photos and signed Domino’s Pizza menus and rugby balls as a special memento for those who attended the launch.

The Domino’s Ferrari which features giant pizza graphics and Domino’s logos was also present at the official opening. The Ferrari has been used to promote the new store opening and to demonstrate the branch’s dedication to providing a speedy <a href="http://www.dominos.co.uk/ourstores/Pontyclun.aspx"title="" >pizza delivery service (while keeping within speed limits of course!) Sophie Evans was taken for a spin in the Domino’s Ferrari to nearby Porth to deliver a pizza to a special fan – pictures to follow of the moment the West End star surprised a Tonypandy local with a hand delivered pizza!

The three special guests were happy to don Domino’s Pizza uniforms complete with name badges and hats to try their hand at pizza making along with the staff at the store. The trio also got to sample their favourite Domino’s pizzas at the official opening with Sophie opting for a Margherita pizza with chicken, while the rugby lads went for the Domino’s classic meat feast pizza.

Domino’s Pizza Tonypandy have launched a number of special offers for fans of the Domino’s store on Facebook. Sign up and become a fan of Domino’s Pizza Tonypandy on Facebook now to be first in line to get your hands on a pizza deal or discount code.

All of the official photographs from the launch of Domino’s Pizza Tonypandy including exclusive snaps of Sophie Evans, Matthew Rees and Morgan Stoddart are coming soon.

The entrepreneur, who recently celebrated his 81st birthday, came up with the idea of launching a pizza restaurant after he returned from a holiday in Italy, and realized he was unable to get a slice of pizza anywhere in London. Boizot opened the first Pizza Express restaurant in Soho, London, in 1965. Since the first restaurant opening, the brand has gone on to great things and now boasts 376 restaurants worldwide.

Amongst his extensive achievements, Boizot is credited with championing the type of casual dining experience we are now so familiar with, but was a new concept in the 60’s. The businessman is also thought to have been the first British retailer to sell the Italian beer, Peroni, in the UK. Boizot also succeeded in raising £2 million for the Venice in Peril Fund in the 1970’s through pizza sales.

The Peach Factory Hero and Icon Awards is an annual event which seeks to reward and recognise the work of outstanding individuals working within the restaurant industry. The awards, which are now in their fifth year, were held at BAFTA London this year.

Budding footballers in Bolton received an added boost at Friday’s StreetWise Soccer event, thanks to sponsorship from Domino’s Pizza.

Domino’s sponsored the youth football event, which took place at Bolton Town Hall on Friday [October 29, 2010]. Kicking off at 10am, the StreetWise Soccer day saw freestyle footballers from across the UK showing off their skills in a freestyle competition. In addition, local youngsters tried their hands (and feet!) at a match in the Streetwise Soccer Panna Cage, as well as picking up hints and tips from workshops taking place throughout the day. The budding footballers also competed in a skills competition – the StreetWise Soccer freestyle football showdown – which was won by Connor McCarthy.

As part of Domino’s sponsorship, staff from the stores in Derby Street and Blackburn Road, Bolton, were on hand to assist with the sporting activities, as well as providing piping hot pizza slices for the town’s top young talent.

Paul Sampson, franchisee of the Domino’s Derby Street store, said: “As a local store, we’re very keen to deliver more to our community and are delighted to support the StreetWise Soccer event. Events such as these which encourage budding young footballers to get involved and develop their talents are a fantastic idea – and you never know, we might just have found some new stars for The Wanderers!”
Kevin Tasker, co-director of StreetWise Soccer, said: “Like all clubs and groups, we need the support of local businesses to keep going and I’m delighted to welcome Domino’s on board. The sponsorship was a great boost to the Bolton event and we had a great time welcoming the town’s budding footballers.”

All Domino’s Pizza stores are charged with delivering more to their local community. This is a programme run by Domino’s head office to encourage all stores to support local charities and events and play an active role in their neighbourhoods. For more details on how your school or group could get involved with the Bolton stores, contact the Derby Road store on 01204 522822 and the Blackburn Road store on 01204 304400.

StreetWise Soccer is a community interest company, which runs local football events, activities and coaching in locations across the UK. For more details, log on to www.streetwisesoccer.co.uk

<a href="http://www.pizzanews.co.uk/category/pizza-express-news/"title="" >Pizza Express are about to launch a very exciting new feature as part of an experiment at their Living Lab restaurant in Richmond.

The pizza chain will install a number of private booths encased in a sound proof dome complete with an iPod docking system. This will allow customers to choose their own music during their meal, and also place their order via the iPod touch-screen.

Another added feature of the iPod touch-screen is a light system which enables the customer to call a staff member to their table, ask for the bill, or show that you’d like to be left alone.

The sound proof domes which envelopes the tables will ensure all outside chatter from the rest of the restaurant is kept out, while the diners inside will be left to enjoy their own choice of music on their iPod system without any interference. It is hoped this will provide a more private and relaxing experience for diners.

The newly opened Pizza Express restaurant in Richmond will be the first UK based outlet to trial the new iPod dock and dome facility. The restaurant plans to collect feedback from customers and if this is positive, Pizza Express plan to introduce the new style booths in some of its other restaurants in the UK.

The survey was conducted by independent research company, Nunwood, and is the first of its kind to be done on this scale in Britain. 5,500 people were questioned as part of the study which sought to gain a snapshot of customer experiences of leading brands.

Domino’s Pizza was ranked 16th in the poll overall, making it the highest placed pizza company in the league table. The overall winner of the Customer League Experience Table, which rated 170 brands in total, was the internet based company, Amazon.com.

The study is the first in the UK to assess consumer experiences of leading brands on this scale, making it a very important piece of research for all of the companies involved.

Domino’s are thrilled to have been placed so highly in the independent review, as Chris Moore the Chief Executive of Domino’s Pizza said this week, “We pride ourselves on not just delivering great tasting, piping hot pizza but fantastic customer service too.” Mr Moore added that Domino’s has introduced a number of new features over the last year to enhance customer experience including the iPhone app, and the online pizza tracker.

A Domino’s Pizza branch in California is attempting to get its name into the history books by making the most pizzas within 24 hours.

Taft’s Domino’s Pizza outlet has been calling upon former employees, and members of the local community to help them achieve their goal. Word seems to have got about as the franchisee says they’ve been inundated with people coming into the store to see how they can get involved in the record breaking attempt.

To clinch the world record, the Domino’s Pizza store needs to beat 5,000 pizzas in 24 hours. According to their estimations, the outlet believe they are on course to make 7,500 pizzas, although 8,000 pizza boxes have been pre-folded for the big day, just in case.

According to the Guinness Book of Records rules, the pizzas need only be topped with cheese. However the Californian branch believes their customers would definitely appreciate something extra on top of the record breaking attempt pizzas, and so they’ve decided to add a pepperoni topping as well.

Teams of 30 pizza makers have been made, each working a three hour shift of non-stop pizza making and baking. The store has also taken over the next door restaurant’s kitchen in order to create as much space as possible for the marathon pizza making event.

3,000 pizzas have already been spoken for with sponsors lined up to take delivery of them on the record breaking day, while the others will be sold from three outlets in the same street.

For one week only, Domino’s Pizza will donate 50p from every pizza they sell to Help For Heroes.

Starting from October 25th until the 31st, leading home <a href="http://www.dominos.co.uk/ourstores/Pontyclun.aspx"title="" >pizza delivery service, Domino’s Pizza, will be collecting 50p from every pizza sold and donating the money to the worthy charity which supports the armed forces.

The idea came after Domino’s Pizza in Colchester announced they planned to hold a fund raising campaign for the charity. The store manager, Aman Singh, say they’ve been searching for some time to find the right charity to fund raise for, and with Colchester’s strong military connections, Help For Heroes seemed the perfect choice.

As well as donating part of the proceeds of their pizza sales to the charity, Colchester’s Domino’s Pizza branch have also launched an exclusive offer of any pizza, any size, for just £8.99. The offer is available on both collections and deliveries, “so everyone will be getting something extra from Colchester’s Domino’s” says Aman Singh.

Domino’s Pizza in Colchester are also planning to open a stall at the local market to raise awareness of the charity fundraisers and hopefully collect more funds for donation.

This offer is available for one week only, so get ordering your favourite pizza from Domino’s this week and do your bit for charity at the same time.
