Top TV chef Heston Blumenthal is renowned for his wacky dishes, some of his most famous concoctions being the snail porridge and bacon and egg ice cream, so it was no surprise when the experimental chef came up with a worm topped pizza when he was invited to help improve the meals served to youngsters at a Liverpool hospital.

One of the main areas Heston was asked to tackle included improving the pizza the hospital was serving up to young patients at the Alder Hey hospital in order to make them tastier and also more nutritionally balanced.

And Heston’s solution was…? To top the pizza with deep friend worms which have been injected with tomato ketchup for extra flavour.

Although worms wouldn’t normally spring to mind as an ideal pizza topping, the award winning chef, whose Fat Duck Restaurant boasts 3 Michelin Stars, said all of the children at the hospital bar one, enjoyed the worm pizza. Plus the TV chef added the only reason he received one complaint, was because the patient didn’t like ketchup, but apparently had no objection to the worms themselves.

Whether the Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool will be serving up worm pizzas on a regular basis remains to be seen. Would you want to swap your usual Pepperoni pizza for a worm feast? Let us know your thoughts.
